Ice Cube Art

I stumbled across “ice cube painting” when I was looking for summer crafts on Pinterest. I thought it would be something fun for the kids to do outside. The Pinterest image took me to Spell Outloud’s ice cube art tutorial. We printed out the ice cream cone template from there.

We took an ice cube tray and filled it with water and added food coloring to each cube. We then put saran wrap over it and poked toothpicks in each cube and froze over night.

We printed out the ice cream templates on card stock and separated the cone and ice cream images. Each child took turns with each color to paint their art.

I love the way the colors turned out!

We added salt to the wet paper and it made cool effects to the artwork. When the “paint” dried, we cut out the cone and ice cream and glued it to construction paper.
